What WE Do
-
-
Once we receive your file we begin to evaluate the quality of the image for its ability to be printed at the requested size. The next thing is inspection on our calibrated Mac cinema display monitor. We check for clarity and sharpness and check levels, contrast, colour etc. Next we soft proof at Print Size and View the image with Proof Setup selecting our in-house purpose built print profile generated specifically for us by Kayell for each and every different one of the substrates utilized . We check for all colors in the range with Gamut Warning.
At this stage Pixles will advise you of any issue possibly adversely affecting print quality that may require attention prior to the printing process. Once the image is considered right to print we then perform some in-house routines to add area surrounding the image. We also add an area equal again to the sides as an allowance for sufficient material to be used to stretch and staple onto the back of the frame.
We print your precious image on our own market leading 44” EPSON Stylus Pro 9800 wide format printer using Epson Ultra Chrome pigment based K3 inks. They have 8 color cartridges Cyan, Light Cyan, Magenta, Light Magenta, Yellow, Black, LIght Black and Light Light Black to render marvelous colors, realistic skin tones and true black and white. Canvas substrates preferred are Canson Artist and Torino 17UV. These are poly cotton canvases specifically developed for giclee printing. They are printed utilizing our unique printer color profiles developed for our Epson printer.
Airing of a printed canvas takes an initial 48 hrs for the print to defume and the printed surface to harden. Liquid Laminate is applied with a roller. This water based laminate is highly flexible and adds Anti UV, Anti Fungal qualities to the finished product. Additionally this ultra clear layer adds scratch resistance to the surface. This is left to Dry for a further 24 hrs to fully cure.
The final manufacturing process begins...
Frame: We measure the laminated print at this stage. This takes into account the variation from requested size through printed image variations experienced with canvas weft and warp stretch, contraction under airing, expansion under lamination and final contraction under drying - 'its a living, breathing thang'. As standard we employ a unique 5 mm double routed round edge profile timber manufactured locally especially for Pixles to make our stretcher bond mounting frame. This profile offers reduced outer edge print crack and reduced inner edge canvas crease. Reinforced bearers are placed at every 500mm intervals to prevent warping of larger frames. Joins, cut with a tradesman quality tools, are glued, stapled and nailed after inspection for square. Corners, edges and sides are final sanded in preparation to ease and improve stretching of the canvas.
Stretch: A mechanical device is used to Machine Tension the canvas for a taut finish and even appearance.
Staple: The stretched canvas is stapled onto the back of the frame.
Strung: A commercial strength chord is firmly attached to complete the mounted canvas print and make it ready for hanging.
Finish: A white industrial strength cloth tape is applied over the complete rear edges, staples and joins to further add cohesive strength to the article at large and improve presentation.
All finished product is wrapped in a protective cellophane layer. Local delivery is completed personally within the Illawarra region. Orders for dispatch elsewhere are further wrapped in bubble plastic and then corrugated cardboard to protect the valuable cargo for their outward journey and labeled fragile. New appointed Toll Ipec are now the approved Courier service offered to out of region national clients.
